The Full Story
My name is Amie Coates and I qualified as a counsellor in 2007 with a Higher Ed Diploma in Theology and Counselling through Middlesex University (London School of Theology). I work as an integrative counsellor, using various therapeutic tools, depending on each individual client’s need. I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and my practice is covered by indemnity insurance.
I have been in private practice since qualifying and also worked for 6 years in local secondary schools developing counselling services to those in need of support. I currently work with a local charity and college, working towards providing affordable counselling to those in need.
I work with Individuals struggling with family breakdown, anger problems, self esteem issues etc. initially over a series of 6 sessions, setting goals and using aspects of the following approaches: person centred, solution focussed, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic counselling approaches.
Over the years I have worked with clients who have experienced the following issues:
health related problems
self harming behaviour
domestic violence and abuse
bereavement and grief
Other experience gained has been through the following: Over 8 years working with Children and Family services as a sessional worker, working with young people as a Leaving Care Worker for Dorset County Council, a Teaching Assistant at a local primary school, Support Worker for A local charity working with female victims of domestic abuse and more recently as a college mental health support worker.
Other qualifications include:
* A Certificate in Health and Social care
* Completed modules in Child Development and also in Exploring Psychology (through the Open University)
* Currently I am working towards an MA in Applied Theology at Moorlands Theological College
I have relevant safeguarding training, advanced DBS and regular counselling supervision to ensure best practice.
